About Bambley
Why we exist
Bambley is a small, multi-brand shop for bamboo viscose baby clothing.
Here is the problem we were trying to solve for ourselves. Bamboo baby clothes are wonderful, and the market for them is a mess. There are dozens of small brands, each with its own site, its own sizing, its own zipper design, its own idea of what "0-3 months" means. If you want to compare a convertible zippy romper from one brand against another, you open six tabs and give up.
We carry pieces from several brands in one place so you can compare them side by side, in one cart. That's it. That's the whole idea.
What we're honest about
We call the fabric what it is. Almost everything sold as "bamboo" clothing is rayon (or viscose) made from bamboo - a manufactured fibre produced from bamboo pulp. It is genuinely soft, breathable and drapes beautifully. It is not the same thing as a raw bamboo fibre, and the US Federal Trade Commission requires sellers to say so. You'll see "viscose from bamboo" or "rayon made from bamboo" on our product pages, because that's accurate.
We don't make environmental claims we can't support. The process that turns bamboo pulp into viscose uses strong chemicals. Some producers manage that responsibly and some don't, and we are not in a position to audit any of them. So we won't tell you our clothes save the planet. We'll tell you what they're made of and how they're made, and you can decide.
We don't make the clothes. We're a retailer. The brands we carry design and manufacture their own pieces and ship them to you directly. When something goes wrong, though, you talk to us, not to them - we handle it.
Who's behind it
Bambley is run out of Emeryville, California. It's small. If you email us, a person reads it.
